The Common Terms Catalog (CTC) organizes K-12 educational
objectives into a single common framework. Sometimes referred
to as an index (or an intermediary), this type of technology
offers the promise that you can align your educational
materials JUST ONCE to the index, and thereby accomplish an
alignment to all the standards that also have been aligned
to the index.
One major differentiator of the Common Terms Catalog from other
intermediary-based alignment systems is its underlying structure.
Each Identifier in the Common Terms Catalog is an individual and
discrete educational objective, task, or skill, derived from
the actual details embedded explicitly (or implicitly) in the
standards themselves.
Note: The Common Terms Catalog is not based on a set
of national standards or a set of statements spanning multiple
concepts, which often can lead to a mismatch (or cross-over)
of instructional intent.
The Common Terms Catalog incorporates a unique hierarchical
structure that allows each standard—from the most general
to the most specific—to be cataloged accurately. States
